WisBlock RAK4631-R RUI3 EU868 LoRaWAN Module – nRF52840 + SX1262

The WisBlock RAK4631-R is an EU868 LoRaWAN Core module running RUI3, combining nRF52840 processing, SX1262 LoRa connectivity and BLE 5.0.

 

Use AT commands for configuration and control, or develop custom applications with RUI3 APIs. A compatible WisBlock Base Board is required; LoRa and BLE antennas are included.

Check base-board slots, interfaces and RUI3 firmware support when combining modules. Examples written for the Arduino RAK4631 may need adaptation.

 

Antenna Cables & Adapters

LoRa and BLE PCB antennas are included. For an external antenna, choose an MHF-1 module-side connector and the correct connector at the antenna end:

The RAK4631-R uses MHF-1 antenna connectors. Our MHF-4 to N-Type cable does not fit this module.

RUI3 or Arduino?

Both versions use the same nRF52840 and SX1262 hardware.

Choose this RUI3 version for AT-command control or custom applications using RUI3 APIs. It also supports development through Arduino IDE with the RUI3 board package.

Choose the RAK4631 Arduino version for RAK’s Arduino BSP, Arduino/PlatformIO examples or firmware requiring the Arduino bootloader.

Conversion requires firmware and bootloader changes, so buying the version your project needs is simpler.

 

433MHz or 868MHz?

For UK LoRaWAN projects, choose this EU868 version and a compatible EU868 gateway.

For point-to-point or mesh networking, match your network’s frequency, firmware and antennas. Mesh operation requires suitable application firmware.

This is the RAK4631-R RUI3 EU868 version, supplied with RUI3 firmware. Use the RUI3 board package and documentation when developing applications.

 

A compatible WisBlock Base Board is required and is sold separately - see USED WITH section.

Connect the appropriate LoRa and BLE antennas before using the radios.

 

This module supports BLE, not Wi-Fi. The included 2.4GHz antenna is used for BLE connectivity.

 

For UK LoRaWAN deployments, use the EU868 frequency plan. Configure transmit power and radio settings for the applicable regional requirements.

 

Published sleep current applies to the module under the stated conditions. The complete device’s consumption depends on the base board, sensors, firmware and operating cycle.

 

Compliance documents cover specified hardware and regional configurations. A finished device requires assessment for its intended application; module documentation does not automatically establish compliance for the complete assembly.
