Today Matt is at UK Rail 2026 at the NEC Birmingham, one of the UK’s largest events for the rail and transport infrastructure sector.

The exhibition brings together organisations from across the rail supply chain, including infrastructure providers, rolling stock manufacturers, connectivity specialists, AI and analytics companies, cybersecurity experts, and industrial technology innovators.
For M2MGubbins, events like this are an opportunity to see how industrial IoT, resilient connectivity, edge computing, and remote monitoring are continuing to shape critical infrastructure projects.
Rail environments present some particularly demanding engineering challenges:
Remote and difficult-to-access assets
Large geographic deployments
Limited existing communications infrastructure
Harsh outdoor environments
High reliability and uptime requirements
Increasing cybersecurity expectations
Growing pressure for predictive maintenance and automation
These are all areas where technologies such as LoRaWAN, cellular gateways, industrial sensors, edge processing, and secure remote networking can provide real operational benefits.
It is also interesting to see how rapidly AI and analytics platforms are becoming integrated into infrastructure monitoring, maintenance planning, and operational visibility across the rail sector.
We will be spending the day exploring developments in:
Industrial connectivity
Edge and AI processing
Remote asset monitoring
Cybersecurity for infrastructure
Sensor integration
Rugged industrial hardware
Sustainable infrastructure technologies
Telecoms and networking systems
Always valuable to step outside the day-to-day and see where the wider industry is heading.

If you are attending UK Rail 2026 and would like to discuss industrial IoT, connectivity, LoRaWAN, or remote monitoring for infrastructure projects, feel free to get in touch.
